One of the toughest parts of traveling, which I have been doing a lot of lately, is prioritizing. Unfortunately, customer demands have to take precedence. But, I’ve got some clear air today, so I thought I would start catching up….
A very interesting article on the new industry of carbon offsetting here. It seems that there are some less than scrupulous players saying that they will help you reduce your “carbon footprint”, but unfortunately, they just take your money without really doing anything to offset your personal emissions.
A couple of interesting points from the article…
First, Dupont is offering their customers a chance to reduce the company’s carbon output by paying a fee. Very generous of them.
Second, a company called Blue Source is advertising that they will offset carbon emissions by investing in CO2 injection for enhanced oil recovery. Only problem is that EOR projects, given the high crude prices that we currently have, are pretty profitable right now. Its also interesting that CO2 offsets are being used to produce more oil, which when burned, produces more CO2…most of which, I’m pretty sure, isn’t going to be captured and reinjected.
